Agricultural Laborer Detained In Panton Knife Attack

A farmhand, Jose Armando Lopez Moreno, 22, of Panton, was taken into custody and declared his innocence on July 18, 2025, regarding felony and misdemeanor attack charges following a knife attack at a Panton farming operation the previous evening. Lopez Moreno is charged with stabbing and slicing 23-year-old Marcos Diaz Lopez, also of Panton, with a broken bottle at a farm on Jersey St. at approximately 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 17. Diaz Lopez sustained grave but non-lethal injuries and was transported by air to the University of Vermont Medical Center, where he is in precarious but steady condition. Another individual implicated in the episode also received medical attention for a head wound.

Female Accused Of Homicide Following Lethal Knife Attack In Roanoke County

 ROANOKE COUNTY, VA a Roanoke County resident is facing a murder charge after a fatal knifing that occurred today, July 17, 2025. Officials responded to a disturbance report in the 4400 block of Yellow Mountain Road at approximately 8:30 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered a dead female inside the residence. The victim has been identified as 69-year-old Kathryn Nute. Law enforcement quickly detained the victim's husband, 67-year-old Thomas Nute, who had reportedly called 9-1-1 to report that he had assaulted and then stabbed his wife. He has since been arrested and charged with second-degree murder. Both individuals lived at the home where the incident took place. The Roanoke County Police Department stated that the inquiry is still active, but there is no present threat to the public.
