Virginia Deputies Kill Armed Suspect After Father's Murder Confession
In Botetourt County, Virginia, on Wednesday morning, June 25, a male suspect, allegedly murdered his father, and was lethally wounded by law enforcement officers. The incident began when the individual contacted emergency services, confessing to the homicide. Deputies responded to a residence on High Ridge Circle around 7 a.m. and encountered 23-year-old Liam Gerald McCaul, a Nashville, Tennessee resident, who was armed outside the home. Despite attempts at de-escalation, including intervention by a crisis negotiator, McCaul brandished his weapon at the officers, prompting the deputies to fire their service weapons. McCaul was declared deceased at the scene. Inside the dwelling, authorities found the body of 58-year-old Hugh Gerard McCaul, a Troutville resident. The Virginia State Police are undertaking an independent probe into the officer-involved shooting, and the involved deputies have been placed on administrative leave. Officials have confirmed there is no existing danger to the community.
