Yungblud Opens Up About Sexual Fluidity, Says It’s “Just The Way It Is”

UK brat-punk icon Yungblud has gotten candid about the fluidity of his sexuality and gender expression in a new interview with leading LGBTQIA+ magazine, Attitude.

When discussing the idea of gender and sexual fluidity, the 22-year-old said that the main driver for him moving to London from his home of Doncaster in the country’s north, was his need to “be liberated” from the normalcy of life in Yorkshire, and find out who he is.

“I came to London to be liberated,” he said. “To be able to paint my nails, to fucking try sex with a guy, to try everything, to fulfil my fantasies and figure out who I am.”

The cover star said that at the moment he identifies as “more straight” – and is currently dating Halsey – but accepts that his attraction is not about gender and is definitely more about the connection he has with others.

“I am more straight. [But If] I walked down the street and met a fucking bloke tomorrow, or a trans person, you never know. It’s about connection. I’m very fluid about it.”

He then talked about it further on Instagram, noting the importance of being “visibly yourself” and that he’s open to dating anyone of any gender and sexual identity.

love isn’t a choice, it just happens. if I fell in love with a trans person, or a gay person, or a bi person or a straight person, it’s just the way it is. it’s all on a deeper level. i believe you should never rule out an opportunity where someone can come along and change your whole opinion and perspective of what you are. that’s what it means to be human right ? to change , to grow , to adapt , not to shut yourself off because of a corner you are expected to place yourself in. it isn’t about gender for me it’s about having the right to love any other human being you want and having the right to be loved right back. that’s it. be visibly yourself. loved every second of this shoot, thank you @attitudemag ????????????

A large part of Yungblud’s personal ethos is challenging traditional societal norms, and has been more recently wearing dresses while onstage, expressly subverting the idea that clothing is gendered.

We’ve been brought up with such boundaries: woman wears dress, man sees woman’s curves, you can make baby.

Western civilisation put women in dresses and men in trousers. Before that, in medieval times, every fucker wore a dress.

He added that his outward gender expression changes day to day, depending on the side of Yungblud/Dom Harrison he wants the world to see that day.

I wake up one day and want to look girly as fuck, and I’ll wake up the next and walk out of the house in a Fred Perry polo shirt looking like I’ll beat the shit of out you.

I’ll be Anita from West Side Story then suddenly transform into Liam Gallagher.

Yungblud will be headed back down to Australian again at the end of the year to perform alongside Halsey on the Falls Festival stages, which whips around the country over New Years.
