Kacy Cigarroa, a prominent local real estate lawyer, has joined the San Antonio office of Kruger Carson PLLC.

Cigarroa joins a rapidly growing practice of 11 lawyers, all focused on business and commercial real estate transactions.

Prior to joining Kruger Carson, she represented a San Antonio commercial real estate development group regarding more than 45 class A multifamily projects throughout the nation. This included equity joint venture financing, construction loan and mezzanine loan financing, development, construction, management, operation, and disposition.

Cigarroa also has been involved with the preparation of organizational, corporate governance, and maintenance documents for more than 300 business entities.

Her expertise includes capital markets, partnerships and joint venture agreements, real estate secured financings, entity formation, negotiation and preparation of purchase and sale agreements, development agreements, property management agreements, and general corporate administration.

Cigarroa comes from a family of medical professionals and originally thought she would follow suit. She saw how members of her family, especially her mom, would dedicate each day to taking care of their patients, determined to help them in any way they could. Their dedication and compassion didn’t stop with their patients. They would come home from a long and busy day and show that same dedication, compassion, and love to their own families, despite how exhausted they were.

But after her undergraduate degree, a stint as an all-around helper at a law firm – shuttling documents to and from clients, doing some bookkeeping, and handling administrative chores – changed her mind.

“I discovered how much I enjoyed seeing the attorneys solve problems with words and documents, and how it changed people’s lives,” she recalled. “I wasn’t a lawyer yet, but I enjoyed every day that I was there because I saw how those attorneys approached each day with the same dedication and compassion that my mom and my other family members who are physicians show to their patients.”

“Although I enjoyed my undergraduate studies, I knew that medicine just wasn’t in my heart,” Cigarroa said. The law had stolen it. She was hooked.

Great mentors before and after she was admitted to the State Bar of Texas in 2010 gave her opportunities to dive deep into serious and complex real estate deals and earn her stripes.

“Although law school doesn’t train you for the real world,” she explains, “I’m very grateful that I was given an opportunity to work in a law firm where I could learn how to practice law from many wonderful lawyers. In fact, I still learn from other attorneys every day.”

The transition to Kruger Carson has been a great fit for Cigarroa. “My first few weeks here have validated that moving my practice to Kruger Carson was absolutely the best choice I could have made,” she said. “I’ve been able to jump right in, doing some of the most complex deals around, and I get to do it with a strong group of colleagues who absolutely set a standard with their high-quality work, collegiality, and compassion.”

Cigarroa is a former member of the City of San Antonio’s Planning Commission, where she administered City policies and regulations regarding a wide range of real estate development projects. She is a fellow of the Texas Bar Foundation and is active in numerous organizations, including the Real Estate Council of San Antonio and the Urban Land Institute.

Cigarroa’s enthusiasm for her work also carries over to the rest of her life. She is a member of Community Bible Church, dedicated to helping animal shelters, and carves out time for working out and dancing when she can. She even holds a third-degree black belt in karate.

“Kacy’s thoroughness, precision, and attention to detail is perfectly aligned with what Kruger Carson is about,” said Brad Carson, partner and co-founder of the firm. “Kacy has demonstrated time and again over her career that she is deeply rooted in service to her clients and applying her considerable expertise and track record to maximizing value for them. We are thrilled for her to join our team.”

Added Adam Kruger, partner and co-founder: “Our practice is experiencing rapid growth as more and more clients entrust us with bigger and more complex legal challenges. They are as impressed as we are with Kacy and her work, especially her expertise on the capital and financial sides of commercial real estate.”

“My philosophy has always been to provide clients with more than they expect. That’s also what Kruger Carson is known for,” Cigarroa said.  “I’m excited to work with a team of lawyers that puts client ne and priorities first, and to contribute to the legacy started by our founding partners, Adam Kruger and Brad Carson.”
