Real Housewife Lisa Rinna Opens Up About Her Mother’s Assault By The Trailside Serial Killer

Between 1979 and 1981, San Francisco, Santa Cruz and the Bay Area lived in fear of a man who was said to stalk and murder women that he would lure, Ted Bundy-like, into his car and down deserted roads.

But in 1960, Lois Rinna-Lisa Rinna’s mother—was the first known victim of David Carpenter, the man who would later become known as the Trailside Killer.

I wish my Dad was still with us so he could see my Mom tonight on #RHOBH 😇 I am so proud of my Mom and I know Dad is watching from heaven and is so proud of you Mama! I love you! ❤️

A post shared by Lisa Rinna (@lisarinna) on Apr 16, 2019 at 4:13pm PDT

“I was very lucky—I should not even be here,” Lois said on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills Tuesday.

“I thought that was it—that I was going ‘Bye bye.’ He’s straddling me, and he had a hammer in one hand, a knife in the other.”

Lois Rinna is one incredible woman! Wow! #rhobhhttps://t.co/mNZqW9azNc

So shocked about Lois Rinna’s brush with a serial killer. She is lucky to be alive. #RHOBH

God Bless Lois Rinna… what a fucked up world this is #RHOBH

Just want to mention to Lisa Rinna that her mom, Lois is a true survivor. . We love Lois! Please let her know!!! Lois from Reseda, Ca!! 👍🏻❤️❤️❤️

— Lois ❤️🐶 (@LoJo616) April 17, 2019

Wow. This story of Rinna’s mom being rescued from the grasp of a serial killer is bonkers. Jesus. Lois!

— Miss Alissa (@themstems) April 17, 2019

A military police officer saved Lois’s life. Following this, Carpenter was arrested for attempted murder and sentenced to seven years in prison.

Lisa Rinna said:

“I had such great sadness and empathy for my mom, knowing that not only did this happen to her, but that she basically just stuffed those feelings for how many years?”

“She never dealt with it. She never even talked about it.”

Not a fan, but I commend Rinna on her blog this week and at the very least leaving doggy drama behind; https://t.co/Wdr0JlI0OI

Oh man, Rinna’s Mom, Lois, has brought out all the feels in me tonight. What an amazing story of survival. #rhobh

Just watch the last half when Lois and Rinna are talking about Lois’s attack. It will give you a new perspective

— Michelle Mayo (@michmayo) April 17, 2019

I still can’t get over the fact that Lisa Rinna’s mother Lois survived the Trailside Killer. I literally just listened to the early @MyFavMurder live show where they talked about this asshole. #RHOBH

— Christina Arango Dowling (@fatherdowling) April 17, 2019

There’s a slightly different version of the story from what Rinna gave on #RHOBH and the After Show … Regardless, poor Lois pic.twitter.com/otkRTwBUoV

Carpenter would go on to murder at least eight more people, and was convicted for six counts of first-degree murder.

He remains on death row in San Quentin.

#RHOBH I think it’s good Rinna talked openly. She has 2 daughters.

Your Mom is a very strong woman, you are lucky to have her

— Cathy Crawford (@CacCathy) April 19, 2019

Rinna’s emotional Instagram post said she wished “Dad was still with us so he could see my mom tonight.”

“I am so proud of my Mom and I know Dad is watching from heaven and is so proud of you Mama! I love you! ❤️”

I’d vote for a Rinna/Lois presidential combo in 2020 #rhobh

— Alex Romano (@AlRomano17) April 17, 2019

Agree, so boring. The only interesting tidbit was Lois being the first victim of a future serial killer. Only downside was Rinna being in the clip.

— Jennifer Lynn (@JeniLyn831) April 17, 2019

I would ❤ for Lois to move in with @lisarinna be on the show more, but I feel like full-time Rinna may actually age sweet Lois!! #RHOBH

— legal liz (@Legalliz39) April 17, 2019

Rinna also penned an “open letter” to her mother:

“To My Courageous Mama,”

“You are a ray of light, hope, and bravery. Not only to Delilah, Amelia, and me but to everyone around you. The way you have carried yourself through life despite everything you have been through is a true inspiration.”

“When I think about the horror and trauma you went through as a victim of serial killer David Carpenter and how you managed to push forward with such positivity and grace, it’s nearly impossible for me to describe the amount of pride I have to be your daughter. I hope you realize the great impact you have had on so many others to find the strength to share their own story.”

“I am in awe of my mom and her strength, her courage, and her light. She never gave up, she never gave in. She is the strongest, kindest, most generous loving human I have ever known. She is the wind beneath my wings. I am so happy to be able to share her with the world and after this episode may you all be better off just by witnessing her beauty, grace, humor, and strength.”

“I love you with all of my heart.

“XOXO, Lisa”

I can’t stop thinking about rinna and Lois calmly discussing her escape from a serial killer over coffee and how it informed the person rinna became. I always liked rinna, now I love her.

I’m fairly new to #RHOBH, is this the first time we’ve heard of Lois’s story?!?! OMG. How did Lisa Rinna not being this up during the dinner?!?!

— Mindy D (@MindyDarrow) April 17, 2019

@lisarinna Your mom is my spirit animal, Rinna! So proud of her. She is an amazingly strong woman!
Give Lois a hug for me, please! ♥️
I survived sexual assault as well.

— Conor Behan (@platinumjones) April 17, 2019

It is lucky that Lois is alive at 90 today.

Carpenter remains a suspect in two additional homicides.
