BRONSON, MI (WTVB) – A Go Fund Me page has been set up for the family of two young children who died Monday morning in Bronson Township when a fifth wheel camper caught on fire.
A family friend set up the page and was hoping to raise $5,000 to help with funeral and burial expenses. As of early Wednesday morning, over $1,700 has been raised.
The Branch County Sheriff’s Department and the Michigan State Police Fire Marshal Office continue to investigate. While authorities have yet to officially release the identities of the children, family members have told other media outlets the fatal victims were two-year-old Faith Gump and five-year-old Ethan Gump.
There were three children in the camper that was next to a home at 1139 Hollow Road when the fire broke out just before 10:30 a.m..
Their father was outside the camper while the mother was at work. The father and another man tried to save the children as the flames engulfed the aluminum trailer.
They got a seven-year-old girl out but the other two children along with a family dog died.
The seven-year-old was taken to a Kalamazoo hospital for treatment of burns.
Bronson Fire Chief Scott Wilber says the fire is not considered to be suspicious.
