A Nottingham woman who dropped out of studying chemistry at university “with no idea what to do next” has been nominated as the Apprentice of the Year in this year‘s Nottinghamshire Live Women in Business Awards.
She said: “That was the moment when I realised that I wanted to change direction.
“I realised that I’m quite a hands-on learner and so sitting in lectures and taking notes wasn’t for me.”
Henri spent some time looking around for the right thing to do next before beginning an apprenticeship in digital marketing last summer.
and had employment with them confirmed just 20 minutes after her interview.
Henri said: “My mentor at the college messaged me about it and it was a really scary moment.
“She was really apologetic and when the news broke, me and my boss didn’t know what to say to each other, because everything was in the dark.
“But then my boss said that no matter what happened I would still have a job at the salon and that took a massive weight off my shoulders.”
Another provider, Babington, eventually stepped in and Henri was also able to keep her original mentor who had transferred to the company.

“My apprenticeship will officially finish in November but at the moment I’ve got no plans to leave the salon because I don’t think there’s another job that could offer me as much variety as this one does.
“As well as working on social media and promotional material I also work on the reception desk meeting clients so everyday is different and I don’t think many other places could offer me that.”
